Location:
Daoli District, Harbin
How to Get There?
From the center of Harbin – or from anywhere you spot one of the following buses – climb on board either Bus No. 1, 2, 8, 12, 13 (Harbiners are apparently not so superstitious), 15, 16, 20, 23, 64, 85, 101, 102, 103, 113 (again!), or 114, and, depending on which bus it is, the stop you are looking for is either Central Street or Youyi Road (just tell your fellow passengers, or the bus driver, that you are looking for Central Street and the rest will come of itself).
Harbin Central Street in China (Zhongyang Street) was first selected as one of the ten “Chinese history and culture streets” after experts’ decision and people’s vote when the first "Chinese history and culture famous street selection and promotion" activity was announced in Beijing on the 10th. It is the representative and prominent sign of Harbin. Since it becomes the first national commercial pedestrian street on June 1st in 1997, after years building, now the Central Street is a pedestrian street sharing the fame of overseas and collecting business, leisure, fashion, entertainment as a whole.
It makes Harbin known as “Oriental Little Paris", “Oriental Moscow" more beautiful. Harbin's hundred-year history can be traced in this story-rich street. Originally constructed in 1898 for the transportation of railway supplies and called "Chinese Street," Central Street was later floored with square stones based on the design of a Russian engineer in 1924. Since then, it has become home to numerous foreign shops, hotels, and bars.
Russian leather, British woolen cloth, French perfume, German medicine and many more commodities can be found here. Central street is one of the top places to visit in Harbin China. The 1.4-km long street shows an various of European architectural styles buildings. Baroque and Byzantine facades, little Russian bakeries, French fashion houses, American eateries, and Japanese restaurants. These buildings reflect classic Renaissance architecture style.
